A journey with the Godfather of Trance Music
It all started out with one of my friend informing me about an upcoming event. As usual he asked me to guess as to what the event would be all about and who would come. But no where in my wildest imagination had I ever thought that he would say " You know what, its not Bizarre contact or anyone coming down to Hyderabad, its "Goa Gil" who's going to visit Hyderabad. " It took me around two minutes for the news to sink in. Wait....the music I listen to, the trance grooves all of us groove to ....the music which we consider as food for our peaceful souls....and we had the creator, and the rightfully said "Godfather" of trance coming down to our town.
The venue where the party was to be organized made it a wonderful event....an event not to be missed. For the folks who aren't into much of the party scene and for those who aren't from HYD, let me tell you people about a party spot......TREASURE ISLAND (TI)......
The speculation has been long around that the guy who owns this place is a big shot and closely connected with the top brass leaders in the state politics. I haven't had any confirmation on this though I can vouch for it that he does have some influence. There have been "N" number of parties in HYD that were busted up or closed down early by cops on his insistence. The only reason for this being that the parties weren't happening at his place. But the good part in this is, he ensures that the after party for all such parties happen over at TI. A good example for this would be the Tiesto party and Talamasca Party that happened in Gachibowli and F Bar respectively. Both these were shut down early but both the after parties happended at TI...:)))))
And now we had GOA GIL playing in TI. The flyer for the party gave out the timings as 8pm-6am. We were convinced to the core that this thing wouldn't go for a toss as this was happening in TI. The other best part, GOA GIL was on an All-India tour. The rest of places : Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bengaluru had the parties indoors (Pubs). But in Hyd, it was an open air and outdoor party in the midst of nature....As promised he started playing at 8pm, precise. An initial prayer ceremony, and then started the musical journey. Goa Gil always calls his performance as a spiritualistic ritual and not just a party. I was fortunate enough to go on to the playing deck and meet him in person. Along side his console was a photo of Lord Shiva and an idol of Lord Ganesha dancing. The music he played was out of this world, Old School but full of energy.
